Palma Marathon 2019 – Sunday 13th October
The Palma Marathon, one of the biggest events in the Mallorca sporting calendar, takes place on Sunday 13th October. Running past some of Palma City’s most beautiful and historic landmarks, there are also many side events making this a great day out for runners and by-standers alike.
The Zafiro Palma Marathon 2019 actually consists of four races: the marathon itself, a half-marathon, a 10-kilometre race and a Nordic walk (a form of walking with specially designed poles, designed to replicate some of the fitness benefits of cross country skiing and similar activities). There will be more than 10,000 runners attending from a many different countries.
Starting at 9.00 in front of Palma’s majestic cathedral, the full marathon runs west, along the seafront of Paseo Maritimo and out to the westernmost tip of the city. Then, heading back, past the Cathedral, round Parc de Mar and into the narrow streets of Palma Old Town, other parts of the city, and back down along Paseo Borne to return to Palma Cathedral for the finish.
Fingers crossed, the weather should be ideal, with October bringing cooler and slightly less humid air. There will be many side events to keep everyone entertained throughout the day. This year these include DJ’s, batucada (troops of drummers) and accompanying pageantry, various sorts of bands and, no doubt, more besides.
More information on side events plus full race information, schedules, rules and regulations and registrations, can be found on the official marathon website, Zafiro Palma Marathon 2019.
