Santa Ponsa has grown up with the rise of tourism in Mallorca. There are essentially two parts to it. First there is Old Santa Ponsa which is the main sea-front town area with its mix of hotels and apartment developments and plenty of restaurants and bars.
Then there is Nova Santa Ponsa which is, as the name suggests, a more recently developed area made up mostly of luxury apartment and townhouse developments interspersed with coastal villa properties.
The area has a great deal to offer and consequently has become very popular with the British in particular. The wide sandy beach has achieved a Blue Flag qualification from the European Union, signifying it's quality and safety for bathers. And in addition to the restaurants and bars there are plenty of sporting and recreational activities to be enjoyed.

Overall this is a resort area and prime location for holiday homes. There are also permanent residential enclaves both in and around the town. This is a lively place but not "in your face" as some might describe the resorts of Magaluf and Palma Nova.
Nova Santa Ponsa is very well known as a golfing holiday destination and many of the developments such as Santa Ponsa Golf are focussed on this. They do however offer a wide variety of entertainment so interest in golfing is certainly not pre-requisite and should not put non-golfers off the area.
The journey time from Palma de Mallorca and the airport to Santa Ponsa is around 25 minutes.
In addition, other popular coastal resorts are a short drive away such as Camp de Mar to the west, and Illetes and Bendinat to the east toward Palma.
Santa Ponsa is a very convenient location which is one of the reasons this has become such a popular holiday spot and place to base oneself when in Mallorca.
There is a wide variety of property in this area. The main town is very much a holiday resort and property opportunities here are mostly for holiday apartments and rental investments. Many of the best sea-front positions are held by the older buildings so there are good opportunities to refurbish prime location properties.
Outside of the town in Nova Santa Ponsa there are community developments of apartments and townhouses most of which have been developed to a high standard and are sought-after properties. These include the Santa Ponsa Golf properties, Forat and Las Abubilias.
The prices of properties in Santa Ponsa are relatively high for Mallorca as this is a prime coastal resort. It is less generally expensive however than Bendinat and Puerto de Andratx, and Old Santa Ponsa offers lower cost properties than Nova Santa Ponsa.
