Puerto de Andratx

Historically one of the main fishing ports of Mallorca, Puerto de Andratx is one of the most picturesque towns in Mallorca. It is a popular holiday destination and a sought after place in which to own a second home.

Puerto de Andratx is a cosmopolitan all-year-round town. As well as local residents it is home to people from all parts of the world and very popular with the British, Germans and Scandinavians. It is still a functioning fishing harbour too and it is possible to buy from the days catch when the boats return in the early evening. The place to go for this is the mini fish market on the harbour-front.

The town has a great deal to offer. With a very good yacht club which has just been newly rebuilt, this is one of the best places to keep a boat in Mallorca. There is one very small beach on the far side of the bay, and with only three hotels and one small nightclub, Puerto de Andratx never becomes to crowded.

So Puerto de Andratx is not a "beach resort" and lends itself to a more sophisticated style of holiday. There are plenty of very good restaurants and the town has a certain "chic" that many find attractive.

There are also the wide ranging sports facilities of Camp de Mar and the other South West Mallorca resorts within easy reach.

As a residential town there are plenty of shops and and there is a vibrant, if somewhat quieter, atmosphere even in the winter months. As well as boating and other watersports there is lots to do in the area. The location is set on the southernmost foothills of the Serra de Traumantana Mountains and so there is fabulous walking and cycling to be had. The neighbouring town of Andratx Village or Andratx "Old Town" is also a market town and cultural centre with an impressive art gallery.

Accessibility

The journey time from Palma de Mallorca and the airport to Puerto de Andratx is around 25 to 35 minutes.

Puerto de Andratx is also within easy reach of a number of other popular destinations. Sant Elm is one of the prettiest small sea-side resorts in Mallorca and is a short drive up the coast from the port.

Other South West Coast Mallorca resorts such as Camp de Mar, Peguera, Santa Ponsa, Bendinat and Illetes are all but a short drive away, and the towns if Es Capdella and Calvia are also close to-hand.

As with most parts of Mallorca, the local authorities (Town Hall) in Puerto de Andratx is now very strict regarding new property planning permissions.

This has ensured that the new developments that do take place here have not spoilt the character of the area. There are very few new permissions being given out.
