The Southwest Coast of Mallorca

The Southwest coast is the most well-known part of Mallorca. With Palma de Mallorca and the airport close-by, this is the area that was first developed for holiday makers.

However, don't expect the large-scale developments and over-development that is apparent in many coastal areas on the mainland. The developments are relatively small and there is a great focus on maintaining the beautify of the Island.

There is great variety along this part of
Mallorca's coastline. From sea-side holiday resorts to more residential towns. The landscape and scenery are picturesque and varied too, with rocky coastal inlets, some long sandy beaches, and undulating hills leading up to the foothills of the Serra de Traumantana Mountain range as you reach the western part of the island.

The area is famed for its golf courses and recreational boating has become a major industry here. There is a wide range of water sports and other land-based sports and pastimes close to-hand.

Puerto de Andratx

Puerto de Andratx is historically one of the main fishing ports on Mallorca. It is now one of the most popular and sought-after holiday home destinations. With an air of style and sophistication, Puerto de Andratx has a lot to offer. With a mixture of permanent and holiday homes, property here is relatively expensive but still regarded as a prime investment, with luxury sea view villas and apartments being the focus for buyers.

Andratx Old Town

A short drive from Puerto de Andratx is Andratx Old Town or "Andratx Village". This is a traditional Mallorcan Old Town characterised by old traditional townhouses with shutters and several squares which are the centre of the community. Andratx Old Town is more focussed on permanent residences but offers lovely holiday homes for those seeking a more traditional old town environment. As well as townhouses there are apartment conversions in the town, a few small new developments as well as some stunning country house properties in the surrounding countryside.

Sant Telm

Sant Telm is just to the north of Puerto de Andratx. A pretty fishing village overlooking the Island and nature reserve of Sa Dragonera, there is also a lovely small sandy beach as well as a stretch of very good sea food restaurants along the sea front. Mostly made up of older traditional properties there is are just a few high quality development of apartments and townhouses.

Camp de Mar

Camp de Mar is roughly 25km west of Palma de Mallorca. It is a popular and pretty bay area with one of the islands most well-known golf courses, a wide range of other sporting and leisure activities as well as a great beach. Camp de Mar is characterised by few small and up-market developments with apartments and townhouses, as well as wide range of holiday villas.

Santa Ponsa

Santa Ponsa is one of Southwest Mallorca's most popular resort towns. One of the best sandy beaches on Mallorca and safe clear blue waters for children and water-sports enthusiasts combine with varied entertainment and all the benefits of being close to Palma and the airport. Port-Adriano and El Toro

Port-Adriano is a marina bordering "New Santa Ponsa" and El Toro areas. This area is made up largely of high-quality community developments along with some luxury coastal villa properties. This will no doubt push prices up significantly as up-market shops and restaurants open up in the area.

Palma Nova

Palma Nova is a popular sea-side resort just a short drive to the west of Palma. It has grown to the point where it practically merges with Magaluf and offers a similar, although slightly less frenetic, style of holiday. Calvia Town

Less well known than the beach resorts of Magaluf, Peguera and Santa Ponsa, all of which lie in the Calvia Municipality, Calvia Town is also quite different in character. Located a short drive inland, Calvia is a prime residential location for locals, mainland Spanish and expat second home owners alike. Properties here include traditional townhouses, apartments, a few modern townhouses, and also old country house properties and some modern country houses in the surrounding countryside.

Es Capdella

Es Capdella is a pretty town slightly inland of Mallorca's Southwest Coast resorts. It is a typical Mallorcan small town with its square and beautiful surrounding countryside.
