Cala d'Or

Cala d'Or is the main coastal resort town on the Southeast Coast of Mallorca. This stretch of coastline has a character very much of its own typified by the whitewashed Ibezan-style properties which are prevalent here.

Cala d'Or has an excellent marina and all the facilities you could want for a great holiday. There are no less than eight beaches in the immediate area which is characterised by its coastline dotted with small coves and inlets. There are several other smaller resorts along this coast too making this an area with some real variety and a perfect beach-holiday destination.

Once a fishing village, Cala d'Or is still an operating fishing port although these days the harbour and marina are largely given over to leisure craft ranging from day boats to luxury cruisers.

There are many good restaurants ranging from typical Mallorcan establishments specialising in fish, to a wide range of international offerings. There are many bars and there is plenty of entertainment on offer. An excellent choice for family holidays.

There are quite a few hotels and many apartment and townhouse developments focussed on the holiday trade here. However, whilst Cala d'Or is very much a sea-side resort, it is not as built up or frenetic as the few large Mallorca resorts such as Palma Nova on the Southwest Coast, Cala Millor on the Northeast Coast or Sa Coma a little further down on the East Coast.

Accessibility

The journey time from Palma de Mallorca and the airport to Cala d'Or is around 45 to 50 minutes by car.

Inland from Cala d'Or there are a few small towns and villages such as Calonge. The largest town close by is Santanyi.

Porto Petro is another resort lying adjacent to Cala d'Or just to the south, and Cala Figuera is a very pretty location a little further down the coast.

Heading up the coast you come to other popular destinations such as Porto Colom and Cala Murada.

Cala d'Or is popular with the British and other nationalities. In and around the town itself there is a mixture of excellent community holiday apartment and townhouse developments as well as a wide range of holiday villas.

This is an area to consider if you are looking for a holiday home in a reasonably lively area with lots to do. Ideal for personal holiday properties and/or rental investment properties.
