The Southeast Coast of Mallorca

<< return to location guide front page

This is a stunningly beautiful and varied coastline with excellent beaches and many rocky inlets with small beaches (Calas). The area is quite different in landscape and character to other parts of Mallorca. Many of the properties are built in an "Ibezan style" with white-washed walls, further adding to the distinct character of this region.

The coastal towns in this area were
originally fishing villages, and there is
some fishing activity still evident,
particular in Cala Figuera. It has
however become a major focus for
tourism and resorts such as Cala d'Or
and Porto Petro have grown around the
original fishing harbours.

As well as the luxury coastal villas, community apartment developments and hotels that stem from the holiday industry here, boating is a main activity and there are good marinas now, the largest being Cala d'Or.

Cala d'Or

Cala d'Or is the main coastal resort town on the Southeast Coast of Mallorca. It has an excellent marina which is home to leisure boats of all sizes. There are many bars, restaurants and plenty of recreational pastimes and activities on offer, making this a popular holiday spot and favourite haunt of British holiday makers and holiday home owners. There is a wide range of properties available in the area with highest demand being for coastal villas and community apartments.

Calonge

A short distance inland from Cala d'Or, Calonge is a typical Southeast Mallorca small country town with a few bars and some good restaurants. Situated in beautiful rolling countryside and close to the superb beaches of the Southeast Coast, as well as the towns of Cala d'Or and Santanyi, Calonge has a lot to offer those looking for a permanent residence or holiday property in a country location.

Porto Petro

Located next to Cala d'Or, Porto Petro is almost a suburb of this popular Southeast Coast resort. However it has maintained its character as a fishing village and is relatively quiet, so is a very popular destination for those seeking a slightly quieter location on this beautiful stretch of coastline. As with Cala d'Or, the property market here also is focussed primarily on coastal villas and community apartments.

Cala Figuera

Cala Figuera is arguably the prettiest working fishing village in Mallorca and has evolved into a charming small resort village based around a rocky inlet. Beautiful crystal clear waters invite swimming from the rocks or the bathing platforms of one of the local hotels. There are no community developments here and property consists mostly of old fishermans' townhouses with some apartments in the town, and some very nice villa properties not too far from the town in the surrounding countryside.

Santanyi

Santanyi is the main town in the Southeast Coastal region. Founded around 1300 Santanyi is classified as a Mallorcan "Old Town" so it is an attraction to day trippers and property-owners alike. The location close to Cala d'Or, Porto Petro and other Southeast coast resorts is a further attraction, making Santanyi a popular place with the British and other nationalities. There is a wide range of properties available here with old townhouses and converted apartments in the town, some new townhouse and apartment developments, and some wonderful country house properties in the surrounding countryside.
