Santa Catalina is a vibrant part of Palma. Overlooking the harbour and Club Nautico, the area is characterised by its two windmills, currently undergoing renovation. This is a residential area with many restaurants and bars.

There is also a very good covered market with all manner of stalls and selling very high quality produce from Mallorca and around the world. Santa Catalina is an old part of the town. It has some of the character of Palma Old Town although it is not actually part of the "Casco Antiguo".

Despite not having the historical status of Palma Old Town Santa Catalina oozes character. This emanates both from the buildings themselves and from the people that live there. It is a cosmopolitan and lively district of Palma with a mixture of locals, British and many other nationalities. It is also very popular with the yachting fraternity and the area has become sought-after location to live and have rental properties.

Accessibility

The journey time from Palma Old Town to the airport is around 5 to 10 minutes depending on traffic.

This is a very central location so all parts of Palma City are within easy reach. There are several superb markets and many excellent restaurants and good bars to choose from.

It is a short drive to the Via Centura that skirts the City so excursions to the beaches of the Southwest Coast or other parts of the island are also easy.

Property in Santa Catalina

As above, good property in Santa Catalina is highly prized and prices have escalated considerably in recent years. It is not, however, quite as expensive as Palma Old Town and people looking to buy in the Old Town could consider Santa Catalina as an alternative.

Most of the old townhouse properties have been turned into apartments although a few remain as single dwellings. This is a recommended as an area to invest in despite the prices already being relatively high. Renovation of old apartments provide the best commercial opportunities, and people looking to live here might also consider buying a place that requires renovation.

There is also a strong rental demand for properties, particularly smaller one and two beds as these are taken up by the people working on the luxury yachts who want places to stay when moored in Palma.
