Portixol and Molinar

Portixol is to the east of Palma within easy walking distance from the city. Comprising old fishermen's cottages this area has become increasingly popular and now has a wide variety of bars and restaurants.

This is a very attractive area and home to permanent residents from Palma as well as a mixture of foreigners and people from the mainland of Spain who have second properties here. This is a stylish and sophisticated place which has sometimes been referred to as the "Notting Hill of Palma". Certainly it has some things in common, with some very good restaurants and bars, and a young and vibrant feel to it that draws people for visits from all over Mallorca.

The area is a holiday destination too, but the only hotel here really is the Hotel Portixol, a very well-known and highly reputed establishment. So Portixol and molinar never become over-run with tourists. They do however get quite busy in the season, particularly on Sunday mornings, with residents of Palma walking along the promenade. But the atmosphere is calm and ultimately relaxed, if anything enhancing the attractiveness of this location.

The cycle and rollerblading track that runs along the shoreline of Palma runs right through Portixol and molinar so these activities are popular here. There is also a very nice sandy beach in Portixol and a large sandy beach also in Cuidad Jardin just past molinar.

There are two boating marinas, one in Portixol and one in molinar. They are small marinas that were originally fishing harbours and still cater for some local's fishing boats as well as for small leisure craft.

Accessibility

The journey time from Palma de Mallorca and the airport to Portixol and molinar is around 10 minutes. There are several other very nice resort areas close-by. The nearest is Cuidad Jardin which is easily walkable from Portixol and molinar and also boasts some very good restaurants and sea-front cafes as well as a super wide sandy beach.

Cala Gamba is a little further on, a very attractive small town with its marina and restaurants, and then C'an Pastilla is a short drive, cycle or walk on from there.

Palma de Mallorca itself is within very easy reach. You can walk there is about 20 to 25 minutes, cycling takes a 5 to 10 minutes, and by bus or car the City is literally a few minutes away.

Property in Portixol and molinar

This area is characterised by the traditional fishing cottage properties that stretch along the sea front, and behind this there is a mixture of townhouse properties and apartment developments.

Proximity to Palma and the picturesque nature of Portixol and Es Molinar make these locations very attractive and the price of property here is relatively high as a result. The current development of the area between Portixol and Palma will effectively join Portixol to the city and will create further property demand from locals and foreigners looking for second homes in a prime Palma location.

Property Prices

The highest prices are for the front line sea-view properties, many of which have been refurbished to very high standards. There are properties that have not been refurbished but these are difficult to obtain.

Back from the front line there are more apartments and property prices are lower. Consequently the area behind the front line is populated more by locals although these parts too are becoming increasingly sought-after and are a good investment.
