Puerto Portals is one of the most exclusive harbours in Mallorca and home to many impressive super-yachts. Restaurants and shops in the area reflect this with designer labels being much in evidence.

Portals Nous is the main town area attached to Puerto Portals and has a vibrant main road bordered by colourful restaurants and bars. It is an up-market area and favourite haunt of well-heeled British expats. It is more a residential area than holiday hotspot, although there are some hotels and holiday apartments and rental villas in this area. Portals Nous in particular is more focussed on residential villas than apartments.

Many of the people milling around Portals are involved in some way with the boat industry, either as crew, or working in the large and successful industry that has grown up in Mallorca servicing yachts and leisure boats.

There are many attractions in the area. As well as some up-market restaurants and bars, and the marina itself, there is Marineland which specialises in entertainment, education, research and connection with nature. The dolphin shows in particular have won awards internationally and are the park's top attraction. They also stage sea lion and parrot shows.

There is also a good beach here which has remained quite unspoilt and is relatively uncrowded even during the main holiday season.

This area has grown around the boating industry so the population is a real mixture of nationalities with a strong British element, particularly in Portals Nous. Some of the homes are permanent residences and others are second homes. In Puerto Portals many of the apartments are kept by boat owners and senior crew of the largest and most luxurious boats.

Accessibility

The journey time from Palma de Mallorca and the airport to Portals Nous and Puerto Portals is around 15 to 20 minutes depending on the traffic in Palma.

Portals Nous and Puerto Portals are both conveniently located for a range of other interesting locations and resorts. And the golf, sports and recreation facilities of Bendinat and Illetes are close-by. Santa Ponsa and Port Adriano are only a short drive way with Cala Major and Santa Agusti being a short drive in the other direction toward Palma.

Costa d'en Blanes and Genover are within very easy reach. These are more residential areas and Genover boasts some of the finest restaurants in Mallorca.

And of course Palma de Mallorca itself is 10 minutes drive, or a quick bus journey, so evenings out in the capital are easy from this location.

Property in Portals Nous and Puerto Portals

Puerto Portals and Portals Nous offers a mixture of apartments and luxury villa properties, with the villas being more in Portals Nous.

There is a heavy focus on leisure boating here, with many expensive luxury yachts moored permanently in the harbour. This, its closeness to Palma, and its proximity to some of the best of the international schools in Mallorca, has led to there being a strong British community. So as well as being a place for boating folk to consider for holiday homes, it is also a place to consider if you are thinking of relocating to Mallorca permanently and want a more easily "accessible" environment than some of the more authentic Mallorcan towns offer.

The prices of properties in Portals Nous and Puerto Portals are at the top-end of prices in Mallorca. There are few new developments in the area so apartment and villa re-sales provide the most likely buying opportunities.
