These locations have pretty much merged into one, but have a difference in character and are both interesting resorts.
Cala Major is the first resort that you come to as you head west from Palma City. It is in fact walkable from the western part of Palma around Porto Pi. A mixture of older report hotels, apartments and a few villas, this is an old established resort with a super beach.
Cala Major is at its most busy in the summer when it is a popular "alternative" beach holiday destination. It is however an all-year-round town as many young people from Palma choose too live there due to the nightlife, attractive sea-front location, and the relatively low cost of property compared to the capital.
Santa Agusti is similar in many respects to Cala Major, although the old grand coastal villas that were developed in Mallorca though the 1950's and 1960's in particular are more evident here. Many famous Hollywood stars such as Eroll Flynn used to spend time in this area.
Santa Agusti has a small and very nice harbour which is home to fishing boats and also a range of small to medium leisure craft.

The journey time from Palma de Mallorca and the airport to Cala Major and Sant Agusti is around 10 to 15 minutes.
Other South West Coast Mallorca locations such as Illetes, , Bendinat, Portals Nous and Puerto Portals are within easy reach, and Calvia Town is just a short drive inland.
Cala Major and Sant Agusti are also a very short drive away from Palma de Mallorca.
In fact it is possible to walk there although for the best shopping and restaurants you would most likely go the the centre of Palma which is a little further, so a bus ride or driving are the best options.

The developments here are generally quite small, and the best sea views are from the older properties as these tend to hold the prime front-line positions.
Buying a property in Cala Major or Sant Agusti should be a consideration if you want a sea-side resort with some character and prefer not to be in a more typical resort such as Palma Nova or Santa Ponsa. These locations are also very good for those who want to be very close to Palma City.
The prices of properties in Cala Major and Sant Agusti are moderately high due to their proximity to Palma. They are less expensive however than premium resort locations such as Bendinat and Illetes.
