Marratxi

Located just to the northwest of Palma, Marratxi is in fact the name for the combined villages of Sa Cabanta and Portol.

Marratxi is well-known for the production of pottery. Being located just off the Ma-13 motorway from Palma to the north, Marratxi is very convenient for Palma de Mallorca and so these days also acts as a dormitory town for the city.

This is not a tourist destination and is little known amongst the British. It is becoming known though as more people relocate to Mallorca on a permanent basis and want to live in a Mallorcan environment rather than one of the areas that has become more Anglicised.

As a Mallorcan community Marratxi typically has some very good local restaurants in the town and in the surrounding countryside.

There are also many windmills in the area. In times gone-by these drew water to irrigate the fields, and for the use of the local population. Many are now disused and some have been turned into homes. Some however have been kept or restored to full working order and serve a practical function in everyday use on the farms of which they are part.

Accessibility

The journey time from Palma de Mallorca and the airport to Marratxi is around 13 minutes. The City of Palma takes about the same and is, therefore, a viable destination for an evening out. Santa Maria and Binissalem are close by and Inca too is but a short drive away.

Property in Marratxi

Being comprised of the old traditional Mallorcan villages Sa Cabanta and Portol, Marratxi is classic Mallorcan town and has a mixture of types of property. Mostly traditional townhouses at the centre, some of which have been turned into apartments, and a mixture of traditional and more modern country house and villa properties on the outskirts and in the surrounding countryside.

This is not a location for holiday homes, but does offer opportunities for those seeking to relocate to Mallorca and perhaps work in Palma.

The prices of properties in Marratxi are lower than the better known coastal areas close to Palma along the south west coast.
