The landscape in this region varies from the foothills of the Serra de Traumantana Mountain range where one can find small hillside towns such as Alaro, to the much flatter area known as the Central Plain or "Es Pla de Mallorca".
The northern part of Es Pla is the main wine producing region of Mallorca with Binissalem and Santa Maria at its heart. Both towns are working agricultural towns and, as well as the vinyards, there are extensive almond and olive groves in this area. These towns are also residential
enclaves with traditional old townhouses,
new apartments and townhouses, and
country house properties in the surrounding countryside. Some are homes to the owners of the vineyards, or indeed are bodegas where you can sample and purchase the produce. Others are country residencies of residents from Palma or owners from overseas.
The central region has a great deal to offer. Different of course from the coast, the area has a thriving agricultural community growing fruit and wheat amongst other products in addition to the vines.
Properties in this area vary from luxurious country houses to country villas on the outskirts of some of the towns, and apartments and townhouses (both modern and old conversions) in the towns themselves.
Easily accessible, locations in this area are an easy 20 to 30 minute drive from both Palma de Mallorca and the airport.
Alaró is a very pretty town in the foothills of the Traumantana mountains. I really fits more with other such villages as Bunyola (sorry, it's just a function of the way we split the map into regions!). This is an agricultural area and the town is a a centre-point for the olive oil and orange producing that characterises the area.
≈ More about the type and price of properties for sale in AlaróInca is the third largest town in Mallorca. It is a market town as well as being a manufacturing town famed for its leather goods. Inca is also home to a great many fine restaurants and offers a thriving and vibrant community. Properties include both modern and old converted townhouses and apartments as well s villas and country houses in the surrounds to the town. This is unlikely to be a location for your holiday home but if you are considering relocating to Mallorca to work this is a possible option.

There are some wonderful old converted townhouse properties as well as country houses in the surround countryside.

The community has re-established and is now thriving due to the re-emergence of the Mallorcan wine industry. Properties here are mostly traditional townhouses and converted apartments along with some new buildings too.

There is little evidence of tourism to be found and these are very much "local" Mallorcan communities.

It is a classic Mallorcan small town and has a mixture of types of property. This is both a local Mallorcan community and also a dormitory town for people working in Palma.
