Son Serra de Marina and Colonia de Sant Pere

Son Serra de Marina and Colonia de Sant Pere are two small and very nice resort towns on the south and southeast parts of the bay of Alcudia. They are away from the main tourist action and therefore are popular locations for locals day-tripping to the beach, and for others looking for a beach holiday destination that really is "away from it all".

Son Serra de Marina

Son Serra de Marina is located on a long and sandy beach backed by dunes. This is a super stretch of unspoilt coastline. Son Serra de Marina itself is a low key small town with low rise properties, a few good restaurants and some great casual sea-front bars. This is a popular location for young locals from Pollensa, Puerto de Alcudia and Arta at the weekends, particularly on Sundays when some of the bars have live music. Much of the countryside and most of the coast in this area is protected.

Colonia de Sant Pere

Colonia de Sant Pere lies further to the west along the shores of the Bay of Alcudia. It is still-functioning fishing village as well as marina for leisure boats and a holiday resort.

Surrounded by dramatic mountains, nature reserves and beautiful coastline this is a great location for those wanting a real get-away. It is off the beaten track, but with a journey time from Palma and the airport of about 1 hour it is still relatively easy to access. Walkers and nature lovers should give this area some consideration.

Accessibility

The journey time from Palma de Mallorca and the airport to Son Serra de Marina is around 60 minutes, and to Colonia de Sant Pere is approximately 65 to 70 minutes. Other popular locations close by include Cala Ratjada, Capdepera, Puerto de Alcudia and Acludia Old Town, and the main town accessible from here is Arta which is 10 to 15 minutes drive away.

This is not a common place for the British to buy property, but those looking for a coastal area with great beaches and scenery and without the more touristy feel could well consider this.

Property in Son Serra de Marina itself is mostly townhouses and apartments (all low rise) and there are some very nice villas and older country house / finca properties in the surrounding countryside.

Property in Colonia de Sant Pere

Properties in Colonia de Sant Pere tend to be newer townhouses or villas, and there are also a few small apartment developments. In the surrounding countryside there are some large and luxurious country houses.

Property Prices

Property prices in this area are lower than for the better known resorts in the North of Mallorca such as Puerto de Pollensa and Puerto de Alcudia. This is due to it being less accessible from Palma de Mallorca and the airport, but this is also part of its attraction and the main reason it has become less developed.

The fact that this area is protected and unspoilt is likely to mean an increase in values over the coming years.
