Cala Ratjada

Cala Ratjada was once a fishing village, and remains a working fishing port as well as having grown popular as a holiday resort and holiday property location.

Cala Ratjada is increasingly popular with the British. Good for water sports and most types of recreational activity the town also has wide range of entertainment for the evenings.

The coastline and countryside in this area are lovely and there are some great beaches and coves. The beaches are kept very well and most in this area have been given Blue Flags, the highest standard of environmental cleanliness. The main Cala Ratjada blends beach coves with a rocky shoreline and is a particularly picturesque spot.

Cala Ratjada also has a busy harbour with leisure boats and yacht moorings. Strolling along the sea front from the harbour there is an attractive promenade lined with relaxing cafes, bars and restaurants offering al-fresco dining.

As with other parts of Mallorca, the holiday developments are very contained so the natural beauty of most of the coastline has been retained.

The coastline around Cala Mesquida and Cala Agulla for example has been recognised for its special ecological and environment value. The area is a specially protected bird sanctuary, with beautiful pine forests overlooking the beach.

So there are some lovely remote and tranquil locations as well as the busier resorts. Other examples are Cala Torta which has a lovely small horseshoe bay with beautiful sands, dunes and pine forests framing it.

There is just one beach bar here and, if you walk over the headland you come to Cala Mitjana which is even more isolated with no beach bars at all!

Accessibility

The journey time from Palma de Mallorca and the airport to Cala Ratjada is around 90 minutes. Other resorts such as, Colonia de Sant Pere, Capdepera, Son Servera, Cala Bona and Cala Millor are within easy reach and the main town close-by is Arta.
