The Parish church, Arta

Arta is the main town and centre of the Northeast of Mallorca. Surrounded by beautiful countryside and being located close to the coastal resorts of the Northeast, Arta is an increasingly popular location for both holiday homes and permanent residences.

Steeped in history the town is dominated by the Gothic Parish Church and the castle. The Santuari de Sant Salvador d'Arta high on the hill on which Arta is built. This sanctuary is on top of a Moorish site and, surrounded by impressive fortress walls, offers fantastic panoramic view of the surrounding area. A spectacular location that is well worth a visit.

Arta has been protected from tourism so the town remains unspoilt and retains a real depth of character. The town itself has many attractions ranging from art and craft shops, basketware being a particular local speciality, to a wide range of local and international restaurants, bars and shops.

Like all the Mallorca old towns, Arta celebrates the main festivals of the year with some real gusto, and there is an cultured and artistic feeling to the town that many find very attractive.

Arta is also the commercial centre of the North East of Mallorca with business focussing on tourism and also the varied agriculture of the surrounding countryside.

Accessibility

The journey time from Palma de Mallorca and the airport to Arta is around 50 to 60 minutes. Arta town is also close to a number of other interesting and enjoyable locations such as, Son Serra de Marina, Colonia de Sant Pere, Cala Ratjada, Capdepera, Son Servera, Cala Bona and Cala Millor.

Property in Arta

Arta is now a strong community made up of both locals and expats from all over the world.

Properties in Arta itself are mostly old traditional townhouses some of which have been renovated and offer very comfortable modern living spaces, and some of which are still awaiting renovation. Some have also been turned into apartments.
