Cap Formentor is a very beautiful peninsula which forms the northern tip of Mallorca. Accessible only by one winding road running from Puerto de Pollensa, this is one of the most desirable locations in Europe for owning a second home.

With its lovely beach and scenery this is a day-trip destination for tourists from all over the island, and one which never becomes too crowded as it can only be reached by a winding road over the mountains from Puerto Pollensa - or by boat.

The peninsula is also home to a small Spanish army base, which goes largely un-noticed as well as the sea planes that are used to tackle forest fires that occasionally spring up in the hottest parts of the year.

There is also the Formentor Hotel (the only hotel in Formentor). This is one of the most famous hotels in Mallorca which has been recently renovated and offers a place with history and character to spend a luxury sea-front holiday or few days break. In the past the Formentor Hotel has hosted notable guests such as the Duke of Windsor, the writer Ramon Gomez de la Serna, Ava Gardner, Gary Cooper, Laurence Olivier and Audrey Hepburn.

The Formentor Peninsula itself is at the northern end of the Serra de Traumantana and is approximately 12 miles in length. The scenery is spectacular, with steep cliffs dropping dramatically into the sea. From the top of the peninsula there are panoramic views out to sea and El Colomer rock. It is undoubtedly an area of outstanding natural beauty.

There are great walking opportunities here as well as being a destination for cyclists, nature lovers and, of course, day-trippers.

Development in this area has been very strictly controlled to preserve the natural environment and wildlife of the area.

Accessibility

The journey time from Palma de Mallorca and the airport to Formentor is around 50 to 60 minutes. Formentor is also close to Puerto de Pollensa, Pollensa Old Town, Cala de Santa Vicenc and Alcudia.

Property in Cap Formentor

Cap Formentor is a highly exclusive location with some of Europe's most expensive properties which are holiday homes to the rich and famous. Properties are a mixture of older grand sea-front villas and newer ultra-luxury contemporary villas.

Properties in Formentor rarely come onto the market so there are very limited opportunities to purchase here.

Like all top-of-the-market prime locations it is a good investment as, despite the high prices, the demand continues to increase amongst the relatively small number of people able to afford to buy properties at this price level.
