The best beach resorts in Mallorca

The best beach resorts in Mallorca

Mallorca is renowned for its beaches. The Northwest coast is the only region that does not have many choices as this is where the Traumantana mountains fall dramatically to the sea.

Other than this it is difficult to choose the "best", but here are a few outstanding beach resorts for those looking for a holiday home close to sand and sea.

Cala d'Or: has several beaches and easy access to many other lovely "calas" dotted along the Southeast Coast.

Puerto de Pollensa: has a super long sandy beach overlooking the wonderful Bay of Pollensa. It is not far also to some stunning, white sand beaches along the Northeast Coast.

Can Pastilla: sits on the western edge of Playa de Palma, another broad and long sandy beach with many restaurants and bars along its well-kept front line.

Sa Rapita: is a small resort on the South Coast of Mallorca, noted here due to its proximity to Es Trenc, arguably the most beautiful beach in Mallorca.

The best old towns in Mallorca

The best old towns in Mallorca

Mallorca's Old Towns are famous for their history, architecture, and for their festivals. They are colourful atmospheric places and increasingly sought-after for permanent homes and holiday properties.

For many these towns represent the "real Mallorca" and certainly well worth a visit.

Pollensa Old Town: is located in the North of Mallorca and offers a classic old town environment with some of the best festivals too.

Soller Old Town: is on the Northwest coast set in the Valle de los Naranjas overlooked by the Traumantana mountains.

Palma Old Town: is the oldest "old town" in Europe and offers a real depth of history, culture, and stunning architecture.

The best country locations in Mallorca

The best country locations in Mallorca

As well as some great beaches, Mallorca also offers a varied landscape with beautiful countryside.

The island is generally lush for a location this far south, and the mountain ranges add a dramatic backdrop to many areas. Once again this is more a "selection" than "best of" list as there are so many good choices!

Calonge: is in the rolling landscape of Southeast with a mixture of agricultural land and virgin countryside.

Arta: overlooks the stunning countryside of Northeast Mallorca.

Banyalbufar: is situated in the Traumantana mountains overlooking the sea.

For those looking for a sea-side location with perhaps a bit more local culture than the main beach resorts, Mallorca offers some great marina towns and old fishing harbours.

Another "selection" rather than "best of" list as, once again, there are many good options to choose from.

Porto Cristo: is an "all-year-round" town with a pretty harbour, located on the East Coast of Mallorca.

Portixol: is a sought-after sea front location on the eastern edge of Palma de Mallorca.

Puerto Andratx: is a very beautiful harbour town on the western tip of the island.

Porto Colom: is a unique fishing town with a natural harbour, on the East Coast of Mallorca.
