Cala Murada and Cales de Mallorca

Cala Murada and Cales de Mallorca are largely family resorts on the East Coast of Mallorca. There are some lovely beaches in this area and many things to do and see. The coastline is typical of the East Coast and very beautiful.

Aside from sunbathing and relaxing on the beach, this is a great place to hire a bike to explore the surrounding countryside. There are many interesting places to visit including Felanitx which is not far away, and Porto Colom which is one of the prettiest harbour towns in Mallorca.

Other options include glass bottomed boat trips, some of which go to Porto Cristo and give you time to visit the Caves of Drach, one of several caves that are a well-known feature of Mallorca.

There are various attractions for family outings, such as the Exotic Parque Los Pajaros just outside of Cales de Mallorca, where there is a children's zoo as well as a cactus garden. And the Aquarium de Mallorca is also a short drive away, close to the Caves de Drach on the outskirts of Porto Cristo.

Beyond this there is a wide range of sporting and recreational activities available, and watersports ranging from the more serious to lounging around on a pedlo.

Cala Murada

Cala Murada is one of the many sandy coves that punctuate the rocky coastline in this part of Mallorca. The area is one of outstanding natural beauty with pine clad hills sloping up from the rocky sea front cliffs. The development of Cala Murada and neighbouring resorts such as Cales de Mallorca has not spoilt the coastal scenery as has been the case in so many parts of the Spanish mainland. Rather, the community developments and sea-front properties have been developed in a way that has protected the environment for all to enjoy.

Although lacking in shops and night-life Cala Murada offers the peace and tranquility many prefer. It is also near the livelier resort of Calas de Mallorca (see below) so there is no shortage of amenities and entertainment close to hand.

Cales de Mallorca

Cales de Mallorca is a town centred around tourism . Developed in the sixties, it offers a wide range of bars, restaurants and other forms of entertainment.

The resort centres around the beaches of Cala Antena, Es Domingos Grans and Es Domingos Petits which are all wonderful unspoilt sandy beaches. So this is an ideal place for family holidays and those seeking a location with plenty to do. There are many hotels and rental apartments but this is not a frenetically busy resort - Calas de Majorca has a laid-back friendly feel to it and makes a good base to explore the rest of the East Coast of Mallorca.

Amenities are good and the all-inclusive hotel packages are particularly well catered for, with much of the entertainment being in the hotels.

The journey time from Palma airport is around 1 hour 20 minutes.

Property in Cala Murada and Cales de Mallorca

Property in Cala Murada consists mostly of villas which are summer homes of locals and overseas owners. There are also some community developments of villas, townhouses and apartment properties. The area is popular with the British and a prime holiday property location. Properties in Cales de Mallorca are also focussed on holiday homes with more apartments in particular.

This is an area to consider for holiday homes and rental investment villas and apartments. It is most likely to suit if you are looking for a family holiday property that you might also rent out.

Property Prices

Property pices in Cala Murada and Cales de Mallorca are lower than in many other coastal areas of Mallorca. This is mainly due to the journey time from the airport. The fact that the area is less developed and not so accessible as say, Santa Ponsa, is an attraction to many and the area and properties in this area are likely to prove a good investment.
