Portixol and Molinar

Among the most sought-after locations in Mallorca, Portixol and Molinar are a mix of old fisherman’s cottages and newer sea-front properties.

Situated just to the east of Palma, Portixol and Molinar are within easy walking distance of the city center.

These are stylish and sophisticated places, with excellent restaurants and bars and a chilled yet vibrant character. The area has become highly desirable as a location for both permanent and second homes.

While Portixol and Molinar do attract holiday makers, they are not typical beach holiday resorts. The busiest times are generally Sunday mornings when residents of Palma promenade along the sea front enjoying the relaxed atmosphere before Sunday lunch.

The cycle and rollerblade track that follows the shoreline of Palma continues through Portixol and Molinar. There is a small sandy beach in Portixol and a larger beach in Cuidad Jardin just a few minutes walk away. Portixol and Molinar both have their own small harbours with a selection of local fishing boats and small leisure craft.

Journey time to the airport is around 10 minutes. There are several other attractive resorts within easy reach including Cala Gamba and C’an Pastilla.

Properties and prices

The most sought-after properties in Portixol and Molinar are the old fisherman’s cottages on the seafront. There are also small luxury apartment blocks and newer townhouses on the front line. Properties set back from the sea are less expensive, although some have good sea view terraces and these are also in high demand.

Limited supply of such properties means prices in the area increased significantly in recent years. With strong demand from overseas, particularly Scandinavia, the financial crisis has made little impact.

The development of the area between Portixol/Molinar and Palma will effectively join the area to the city and create further demand from property buyers looking for a prime Palma seafront location.

Sea-view apartments with a reasonable outside space start around €350,000 increasing well into seven figures for larger properties in the best situations. Townhouses on the front line are likely be be over €1.5 million.
