Palma Bay, SW Coast

Badia de Palma, “The Bay of Palma”, is the largest bay in Mallorca and home to one of the most cosmopolitan and elegant cities in Europe. Situated along its shores are some of the most well-known resorts in Mallorca.

Palma Bay was the first part of Mallorca to see the development of the package holiday industry. The sunny climate, great beaches and proximity to the airport ensured the industry’s success and Mallorca has become one of the most well-known holiday destinations in Europe.

Palma Bay was known long before however, as an exclusive Mediterranean get-away for celebrities, royalty and discerning travellers. This has imbued many locations in the area with a depth of character not found in newer resorts.

Consequently, much of this coastline is quite exclusive. The area offers great diversity too, with classic old seaside towns like Bendinat and Illetas, charming old fishing villages such as Portixol, and mass-market resorts like Palma Nova and S’Arenal.

High-rise hotels and large-scale developments have, however, been restrained. Ease of access, a low crime rate, and a generally relaxed and healthy lifestyle add to the desirability of the area, attracting visitors and residents from most part of the world.
