Arta

Arta is the main town and center to Northeast Mallorca. Surrounded by beautiful countryside and close to several popular resorts, it is a good location for both holiday homes and permanent residences.

Arta is steeped in history and dominated by the Santuari de Sant Salvador, high on the hill on which the town sits. The Sanctuary is surrounded by impressive fortress walls offering panoramic views of the surrounding countryside.

While Arta itself is a busy place and popular day-trip destination, it retains its local culture and has a relaxed character which places it among the more desirable old-town locations in Mallorca. There are many attractions ranging from art and craft shops to the many local and international restaurants and bars.

There is a definite artisan and creative feel to Arta, in some respects similar to Pollensa to the north. And, like all the Mallorca old-towns, Arta celebrates the main festivals of the year with some real gusto.

Residents are a cosmopolitan mix of locals and expats from the UK, Germany, Scandinavia and other countries. The long-established international side to the community makes this a welcoming and practical place for those wishing to relocate on a permanent basis as well as a consideration for holiday properties.

Journey time from Palma de Mallorca and the airport is around 50-60 minutes and there are many interesting and enjoyable resorts and other attractions within easy reach.

Properties and prices

Properties in the town of Arta are mostly traditional townhouses. When renovated these can offer comfortable and charming contemporary living spaces. In the countryside around Arta there are country houses ranging from affordable properties to grand estates.

Property prices compare well with comparable old-towns like Pollensa and Soller. Apartments start at around €150,000 and townhouses €180,000. Country houses can be found for as little as €360,000 although a good 3-bed property suitable for regular use or permanent living will be more. Larger properties in prime locations, particularly those with good views, range upward from around €850,000.
