Alcudia

Southeast of Pollensa is the Bay of Alcudia. With several harbours and beautiful beaches, this is a popular destination for boating enthusiasts as well as sun-seeking holiday makers. It is a long-established location for international property buyers.

There are three sides to Alcudia: the original old-town, Puerto Alcudia and the southwest of the town, which consists of holiday hotels and apartments catering for more mainstream tourism.

Alcudia was once the capital of Mallorca and offers a typical old-town environment with good local restaurants and a weekly market set amongst the historic buildings of old Mallorca. Puerto Alcudia adjoins the old-town and is home to recreational craft as well as local fishing boats.

Most types of entertainment are available in the area, including water-sports, all kinds of boating, golf at the famous Alcanada course and, of course, simply relaxing on the beach and sightseeing. Alcudia also has a varied night scene to cater for most tastes from the sedate to the more lively.

The long, sandy beaches of Alcudia Bay are among the best in Mallorca. While they get busy in the summer season close to the main hotel district, a short drive will take you to more tranquil and uncrowded places.

Journey time from Palma airport to Alcudia is around 45 minutes. Alcudia is also within easy reach of Pollensa, Puerto Pollensa, and Northeast Coast resorts such as Can Picafort, Son Serra de Marina and Colonia Sant Pere.

Properties and prices

Alcudia old-town offers traditional townhouses while opportunities in Puerto Alcudia are focussed on apartments and villas. Mal Pas Bonaire, a suburb of Alcudia, offers some good sea view properties facing west, overlooking Pollensa Bay.

Prices are slightly lower than for equivalent properties in Puerto Pollensa. Decent quality apartments range up from €180,000, townhouses from €280,000 and villas from around €550,000. There are also country houses starting around the same level.

As with all places in Mallorca, prime-location properties and particularly those with sea views, command a premium.
