Here is a blog to give a flavour of Pollensa Old Town, one of the most interesting, characterful and fun locations in Mallorca. This particular posting gives a bit of general background to the town along with a photo gallery of some of the better-known landmarks. Pollensa Old Town and the Pollensa area

The Pollensa (Pollenca) area has been inhabited since ancient times as can be seen from the many early settlement sites that have been catalogued, including the Pre-Talayotic burial caves of L’Alzinar de Cala Sant Vicenc and the Talayotic villages of Can Daniel Gran and Boquér. The most important medieval monument is the former Puig de Maria santury which dates from the 14th Century and stands with the remains of the Castell del Rei fortifications on the steep mountain opposite the town.

The town of Pollensa has a rich cultural and artistic heritage. The town plan is medieval in origin, and is centred on the parish church, and on the Placa de l’Almoina square with its Font del Gall spring – the symbol of the town.

There are a number of significant religious buildings such as the parish church, the Monastery of San Domingo, the church of Monti-sion, and the oratories of San Jordi, Roser Vell and Calvari. There are also a number of important townhouses that were built by the leading families of the area such as Can Llobera and Can Costa.
